Questinon about CrisiS on Infinite Earths...
I was re-reading the absolute edition this evening and I can't really get my head round this.
When the Anti-Monitor was destroyed all the remaining parallel earths merged.
However, dopplegangers of existing Earth 1 characters, from other earths were wiped from existance.
Because Eath 1's Supergirl (Linda Lee) was killed by the Anti-Monitor it allowed Earth 2's Power Girl to be folded into the Earth 1 reality.
So how is the new Supergirl (from Superman/Batman) able to exist?
It can't simply be cause Power Girl doesn't share the same name, she's still Earth 2's Kara Zor-L, so how does the new Kara Zor-EL exist in the same plane of existance?
The corresponding characters can't occupy the same universe, that's why Earth 2 Supes had to leave.
Bear in mind I haven't read the supergirl arc in Supes/Bats yet, so if theres an explanation in there I wouldn't know.
Well, I believe the explanation for this and Power Girl's incredibly inconsistent history and identity since Crisis on Infinite Earths was recently explained in Infinite Crisis.
She is an anomaly that slipped through the cracks of the restored, but flawed, new universe.
That or she's in reality a clone of the original Supergirl created by Cadmus the to fight the JLU.
The she's an anomaly seems a bit weak. It seems like DC are trying to make up for that laughable reimagining of her origin post Crisis.
I like the JLU pic, she was called Galatea in JLU wasn't she?
Yes, she was never called Power Girl on the show.

The running theory right now, is that she isn't really Supergirl.
Greg Rucka was asked how there could be 2 supergirls and he said quot;her name is Kara Zor-el.quot; then he went on to next question at the panel. I took this as she's a clone like superboy or something like that.
Edit--Here it is
The reader pointed out that there appear to be two in the current Supergirl title, and possibly a third that will be showing up in Legion of Super-Heroes as part of the One Year Later storyline, to which Didio replied, “Oh, I guess you’re right – there are a lot.” Asked when it will all make sense, Rucka, the upcoming writer on Supergirl said, “I know exactly who she is, and so does Mark,” adding that the two are planning to meet this weekend to work out the hows and whys of Supergirl appearing in both titles at the same time.
“Within my first six issues, we find out some truths about Kara, and that she’s not realy who we think she is, but she is Kara Zor-el,” Rucka said, and then, noting some unrest from the audience added, “She’s not a horse, she’s not a zombie, and she’s not a robot.”
“Holy crap, now I’m nervous,” Waid added with a chuckle.

I believe DC has already addressed this, sort of. Up until Infinite Crisis, Power Girl's powers have been fluctuating wildly. This also was highlighted in a story arc that ran just before Infinite Crisis. Then, in Supergirl's own comic, I think it was the second issue (?), Power Girl actually went after her. She went a little crazy and her powers fluctuated wildly again. Mr. Terrific surmised that the two of them can't be in the same space together, similar to how Alexander Luthor's presence confuses and befuddles Earth 1's Lex Luthor, Supergirl who's from Earth 1 does the same to Power Girl who's from Earth 2. So their existing together is indeed problematic as RichBamf implies. They're not supposed to be on the same plane of reality. I think DC's going to resolve this one in the current Crisis story, but don't know how yet.

The new Supergirl from what I understand is a different cousin of Superman so she is able to exist in Earth 1
