Who has had commissions inked (by someone other than the artist)?
The inking thread had me wondering who has actually sent a penciled commission to be inked.
I would be curious to hear who did the pencils, who did the inks, before and after pics, you experience, etc.
Do inkers charge less than a pencilier? More? about the same?
I've wondered about this too mate!
I have had pencil commissions inked on two ocassions, both by inkers known for their work with the artist. I had an Ivan Reis inked by Marc Campos and a Matthew Clark by Art Thibert. I was lucky to get Campos as he then stopped working, this may be the only commission with him and Reis. I dealt with both inkers through their respective reps and while Thibert took a while to get to it (he is very busy) I was very happy with the results.
Gah.. those are fantastic, IB.
Joe rubinstein has inked several pieces for me, but always on a blue line scan, so the pencils still exist in their original form, and a wonderfull inked version too
i had al milgrom ink ron lim on these two pages...
the SS #4 recreation is still on my wall...the #72 has since sold.
the backgrounds my milgrom (stars, planets) are killer!
Those look pretty sweet gman!
thanks - good stuff. It seems some pencil commissions have a ton of detail ... so much that I would be hesitant to add inks (Finch comes to mind). I have seen other penciled pieces that seem to be somewhat less finished. It seems like a lot of artist these days do much less with pencils and leave more to inking and coloring to bring the piece to life. Some penciled pieces are frame worthy, some seem lackluster.
Any more success/horror stories out there?
TIA
speaking of a finch inked commission here you go. This was done on Bluelines by Tim Townsend.
